Beware the dragon !

Another little ceramic art fair in Saint Chamas, with a definite flair for the Renaissance period. It was small, about 15 exhibits, with a mix of work from local ceramic artists, demonstrations, hands-on clay tables, and Renaissance fares like homemade meads (strong !) and foodstuff.
The piece de resistance was a dragon-shaped Raku kiln, complete with a smoking breath and baby dragons just hatched ! I missed the unloading, and it looked like they were reloading the belly of the beast. Momma dragon was particularly excited, blowing up smoke through her nostrils in contempt, while her brood was discovering their new world.

Coup de Coeur

I had a wonderful vacation in France ! May-June is the perfect time to visit the South of France. Flowers are in full bloom, the sun is out with a warm glow, local fruits and vegetables are crowding the store shelves and open markets. And art shows are starting to duplicate for the early tourists.

It is during one of those small art shows that I discovered an artist whose work I absolutely love. She is a full artist tackling multiple media, including painting, and ceramic and bronze sculptures. I was particularly awestruck by her line of women figurines. The elegance and simplicity of the form, the nonchalance in the pose, the attention to small details that bring the figure to life, it all comes together in expressing a very simple act (reading, bathing, posing), each with a distinct personality. Veronique has found a style of her own that is worth checking out. Visit her website, didierlaurentveronique.com, and prepare to be amazed. Yes, it is in French, but the pictures do all the talking.
